"Updates posted for Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom, ACR" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-19 12:11:42

The Photoshop 10.0.1 update addresses the experienced by users printing from CS3 particularly on Windows.  I've that goes into more detail on the topic. The update also includes better support for preserving XMP metadata (including copyright) via Save For Web through the inclusion of a new "Include XMP" option in the dialog's settings menu.  The Photoshop update does not address a problem with changing the values for various tools on Mac OS X Leopard but Apple and Adobe are working together on a separate fix (). With Bridge 2.1.1 a new preference to enable High Quality Preview has been added to Bridge's Preferences->Advanced panel. When enabled the preference addresses the problem of a soft or blurry preview appearing in the Preview panel and in Slideshow mode.  The Bridge update also remedies other problems reported by users including a problem that could cause Bridge to lock up when using arrow keys to navigate. Lightroom 1.3 improves compatibility with Mac OS X Leopard fixes some bugs and adds an option to render 1:1 previews during import.  New cameras supported in Lightroom. Camera Raw and the DNG Converter include the following: Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III. Canon PowerShot G9. Nikon D3. Nikon D300. Olympus E-3. Olympus SP-560 UZ and Panasonic DMC-L10.  The applications also now support the sRAW format produced by the Canon 1D Mk III. 1Ds Mk III and 40D. There's also a preview available for developers on Adobe Labs.  If that sounds interesting check out what Lightroom PM Tom Hogarty has to say on the. By the way in case you're wondering why the download size for the Photoshop update is large it's because the updater is multi-lingual and on the Mac side the update is Universal Binary. Why in the world do updaters always want to update when you START a program? Nothing is more frustrating that needing to get something done quickly and having to wade through dialogs by the updaters. If there was an option to "Update and Quit" that I could just leave to do its business. I know that I would update a lot more often and be less tempted to turn auto-updating off. None of the update links seem to be working properly. The update links return you to the main index page in an endless loop or direct you to the 1.1 update. Any ideas as to why? [I don't know but I continue to get reports like this--all from Europe it seems. Maybe something with the download replication network is screwed up. I'm investigating. In the meantime please try going into Photoshop then choosing Help->Updates. You should be able to get all the bits that way. --J.] I don't really like to do some bug reporting as your blog has also pointed very beautiful and interesting things out to me but on this subject I do have something to mention. I'm currently downloading all updates using Adobe Updater on a MacBook running Leopard 10.5.1. While I'm only at 19% of the download. Adobe Updater is constantly using between 60 and 105% of (one core of) my cpu. This seems pretty awkward maybe worth looking into what goes wrong there. [Thanks for the info. Tiemen. I'll pass this along to the AUM team for input. A little utility like this should be elegant and unobtrusive. --J.] 2) I can't double- or option-click opacity mask thumbnail to enable editing of opacity masks in Illustrator if I'm already in group edit mode (which means I have to ungroup the objects in order to edit the opacity mask of one and that is a big hassle). 3) When hovering in the colors palette over the black or white colors (right side of the color field) the tooltip for it flickers very fast (HSB Spectrum). PS CS3 print to R2400 (OS X) NOT fixed by latest updates! Installation of PS CS3 10.0.1 and Epson driver re-installation (Intel Mac 10.5.1) does *not* fix the dark muddy printing problem on R2400. LR 1.2 and 1.3 print same images correctly. Test is psd file printed correctly previously in PS CS but never correctly in CS3. Alternate profiles (for Enhanced Matte) don't help. Screen looks identical in LR 1.3 and PS CS3 10.0.1. Since installing CS3 months ago can't revert to CS and Adobe won't support CS anymore. Have spent hours on the phone with Adobe to no avail. What gives and how can we get this fixed? Thanks for any suggestions. Adobe tech support suggested I post this today. After spending 2.5 hours on phone we still cannot get CS3 to print proiperly with Epson3800. Print always comes out dark and muddy in appearance. Using calibrated monitor and the same image prints out of Lightroom perfectly. Epson Proint Preview window shows "weird" colors in both CS3 and Lightroom prior to print but lightroom prints fine. Very frustrating since I must import into Lightroom after producing in CS3 just to print. I downloaded latest drivers and monitor from Epaon and Adobe and I twaeked everything we could think of but to no avail. We deleted and reset preferences changed color spaces let printer manage as well as let photoshop manage but no success whatsoever. John suggested letting you know that 10.0.1 doesn't correct the problem on my machine (XP SP2 high-end Dell XPS with 2 Gb RAM and GEForce 6800 video card with 256Mb onboard video memory.) Any help would be appreciated since I am a professional photographer in a production environment and need to get this work out ASAP. Thanks. (1) Finding a set of uniform settings by which to coax CS3 to produce prints identical to those for earlier software. CS in particular; and Generally my working space is ProPhotoRGB in both CS3 and in LR. The particular image that I've cited is a psd produced some time ago and having an embedded profile of Adobe RBG(1998) which I "accept" when printing. It is a production file so there is essentially no workflow -- just open in PS/CS3 10.0.1. "Print" select the profile (should be SPR2400 EnhancedMatteBstPhoto" but SPR2400 EnhancedMatte" actually does slighty better) select "Relative Colorimetric" rendering and Black Point Compensation" hit "Print" then ensure that settings are correct in the driver (I use a preset with no color management. Enhanced Matte Paper. Advanced: Best Photo. Finest Detail. I have removed and reinstalled all Epson drivers and profiles. Dave - can't see any issues with your workflow or process for colour control. I'd suggest that "finest detail" is only useful if you're feeding well in excess of 360ppi into the driver. I haven't seen that cause a problem when less data is provided but perhaps worth a try. Only other thing I can suggest at this point would be to have the image tested on another 2400 set up on another system (local dealer perhaps?) and compare results. Just a reminder to see if you have any further information regarding my issues from November 21. Specifically printing from CS3 on Epson 3800 (dark and muddy) and Print Preview window not even close to actual colors either in PSCS3 or Lightroom 1.2. Images print perfectly out of Lightroom despite bad preview image. This makes a very labor-intensive workflow since I have to produce the image in CS3 then save to a neutral folder then import into Lightroom then move to the Print module and print just to get one image out of CS3. There must be a better way! Before the upgrade to CS3. CS2 was never a problem and output matched Lightroom and my calibrated monitor perfectly. Any further suggestions? As I keep reading about all these printing woes in PS this idea keeps recurring to me: why not simply export a PDF and print from Acrobat? Or why not import the PSD into InDesign and print from there? Is there Some Special Secret Reason Unknown To Poor Me which makes it absolutely necessary for people to print from PS itself? I have extremely rarely printed anything directly from PS since I much prefer the printing procedures in InDesign or even the dirt-simple Acrobat -- hence I wonder if I'm missing something by not printing from Photoshop? (Nah. I don't really believe that!) Of course PS *should* be able to print nicely without endless problems -- but still why not use the InDesign or Acrobat route as extremely simple pain-free work-arounds? I would like to add my comments to those of Dave nov 20th. I have pscs3 and epson R1800 and i have the same results with my printing - dark and magenta. Nobody seems to be able to help me with the problem although Epson are trying. It happened on my old emac and now with my intel macbook. Any help very gratefully received but I've tried everything obvious. I'm told it's a bug but it's time it was fixed if that is so. Problems printing to Epson R2400 from CS3 and Lightroom are still with us. I have been working with Adobe to try to diagnose the problems reported here. So far we haven't struck paydirt despite a lot of attention to profiles and their sometimes mysterious handling. Most curious to me is the continuing inability to get Lightroom (1.3.1) and Photoshop (CS3/10.0.1) to produce the same output given the same input and settings. I appreciate the support and assistance but it is disappointing to see no real progress. "Problems printing to Epson R2400 from CS3 and Lightroom are still with us. I to am in contact with Adobe tech support with no workable answers as yet. I am totally unable to print from indesign, illustrator and acrobat. I am requesting an update on my previous two posts of November 21 and 27. This addresses an untenable printing problem from Photoshop CS3 using an Epson 3800. The problem appears to be well documented in many places but I haven't a single response from Adobe regarding a positive solution. As a professional using a supposedly professional product this is unacceptable from a customer servioce and support position. I strongly think that Adobe owes us an explanation and progress/status report on this issue. I have the same problem when printing to my Epson 1800 from CS3. I finally just let the printer manage the colors and it's better. Or I do my post-processing in Photoshop save the file open it in Picasa (the free program from Google) and print it from there. And to think I paid $700 for CS3 so I could have complete control of my output -- what a joke! Never again. Bridge crashes constantly and Picasa produces better print output. I am DONE with Adobe. Can someone please explain to me why I have to shut down all browsers to run the Adobe Updater??? What ever the reason is it's not good enough! #1. Adobe updater eats 80+% of my CPU and is sloooooooower than a turtle. #2. In the mean time I CAN'T WORK because I'm not allowed to run any browsers. #3. On top of that the Updater is flaky and crashes on a regular basis. #4. The Updater needs to update itself??? That is just wrong. Management at Adobe needs to give the Updater team more time to plan and test before forcing them to release it. Adobe it's time to come clean and be honest with all of your customers. What happened to looking after your customers? There has been no official explanation and it is high time that one came. I have been in contact with Adobe customer support for the last month. The return emails from Adobe are now few and far between with no apparent solution. We are now back to where we started. The wait goes on.... We have worked with many of you individually to help you through any outstanding print issues - understanding that remaining problems stem not only from Photoshop but the Operating Systems and printer drivers as well. Throughout these one-on-one cases we have found that an overwhelming percentage of issues occurring after the 10.0.1 release can be averted by minor changes to work flow and installation (and uninstallation) of updated drivers. As print hardware software and platforms vary so too do some solutions to these problems - please do not assume that all that troubles you is from one source (I assure you it is not). To assuage outstanding issues we have released a document (alongside 10.0.1); I have provided my email address (bhughes@adobe com) and encouraged direct communication; and we have suggested driver updates - Epson. Canon and HP continue to update drivers and fix known issues (please check those sources regularly). Comments to this blog (especially when I've provided a direct line to development) are a very inefficient form of communication in this case as it necessitates John mailing engineering and QE a message that is detached from the source and thus at least somewhat out of context. We do plan to deliver a revised workflow guide for printing and I will be happy to provide links to driver updates in that. In the meantime. I can give no clearer guidance than closely following the guidelines set forth in the document which accompanied the 10.0.1 release; consulting Adobe's incredibly rich and abundant User to User forums (http://www adobe com/support/forums/index html); regularly checking on current drivers - or mailing me.

"John Howard: Search for a scapegoat" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-29 02:45:22

It's all kicking off in Australia as the election campaign. Kevin Rudd the challenger has surfaced on You Tube (below - bottom) eating his own......... I can hardly say it.. if you're eating look away now..... ear wax. There's a bit of a financial scandal brewing which could further hurt the government who are already. But John Howard is the great Houdini of Australian politics and he could still displace a "rabbit out of the hat" as he has done before. This YouTube clip (immediately below) uses a very entertaining style to speculate on what "scapegoat" Howard might come up with this time to save his political skin. Who will be the 44th President of the USA? Quick Quiz: Which of the following has nothing to do with the US Presidential election? Join the Lib Dem supporters communicate The views expressed here are the personal views of Paul Walter not those of the Liberal Democrats. Paul's employers or any council or council group. "GOP underdog Ron Paul raises money, hopes for ?08" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 00:09:37

Mahatma Gandhi once said. “First they ignore you then they ridicule you then they fight you then you win.” Such is the rEVOLution that has begun here in this country. First it was ignored until the Republican debates. During the debates and up until several days ago it was ridiculed. But now it has traction and the fighting has begun. On Nov. 5. $4.38 million was raised in one day the largest GOP one-day fundraiser in history for Rep. Ron Paul of Texas’ fourteenth district. Paul a 72-year-old physician. House representative and Air compel flight surgeon during Vietnam was considered a wack job during the first debates. His anti-war anti-taxes and anti-big-government views were dismissed by the “big dog” candidates at first. But that was before they realized how popular he was. Paul shocked the American political sphere at the end of the third quarter by raising more than $5 million more than “frontrunner” John McCain. To the neo-conservative “Republicans” who have only just established their foothold. Ron Paul is a scary prospect. His message is simple: we can reduce the size of government and return ourselves to the foundations of this country if we change our philosophy about what the government’s role should be. He advocates cutting down the federal government in swaths – removing the IRS and income tax eliminating the bureaucracy that is created by cabinet-level departments and reducing government spending exponentially. While many may claim that these departments are needed the truth is that on a federal level they are not and can be substituted with state-level institutions that are better equipped to regulate local issues. Paul is pro-life and anti-gay marriage but believes the federal government has no role in legislating such things and they should be left up to the states. Watching him speak it’s easy to see that he is honest and cares about his constituents and his supporters. His basic philosophy is that of the Founding Fathers: government should be for the people by the people and not much else. The media has refused to cover Paul much. An independent study found that Paul’s label was mentioned approximately 4,500 times on study media outlets in the course of a year. Compare that to John McCain whose name was mentioned 95,000 times. Does that seem suspicious? The media is no longer our watchdog. The media likes him about as much as most politicians do. Why? Take a look at some Ron Paul rallies on YouTube. See the.

"I hurt myself alot, just not that bad each time. One time that ..." posted by ~Ray

I was wondering with all the home crafted weapons what you would classify as the MOST painful moment in you life so far. When were you in the most pain of your life time was it after being shot with a paint ball gun or when you stubbed you toe against that stupid door. Ohh and once you undergo remembered bequeath to give it a pain rating from 1 to 10. 1 being not too painful and 10 extremely painful. I'm sorry if it brings back bad memories but i was just interested. My most painful moment was when i was playing play we used to cut out points to make the stumps then flick them in to the fasten one time i over judged it and it hit me hard on the shin I sat with an ice pack on it for about 2 hours and had a lump the size of an egg! Booh-BooH #1weeeeelllll u no those flying suacer sleds? I was on one of those and i was facing backwards. There seemed to be bleachers right behind me. I ran into that and my brother said i had a gaping hole in the back of my head. I don't bequeath much more than that tho as i think i blacked out. I got 9 stitches and now i have a nice bald spot in the approve of my head. Pain- 3/10 for aferwards(don't really remember the actual event)hurtie #2I was skiiing w/ my bro what ppl had done is make litte ruts in between trees then used em as ramps there was one that went almost 90 degrees up i went off it went up about 4 feet and landed flat on my back on really hard packed snow i went out cold for a few seconds then laid there another few minpain 7/0ouchie #3I got checked playing hockey and i broke my collarbone. I had a lump desire a play ball. We went to the hospital and procceded to sit for 4 hours waiting in the waiting dwell then i got into the dwell and they wouldn't furnish me meds past tylenol! Hockey requires energy. But they also wouldn't let me eat fo the hour it took there. Finally the examine was inconclusive. So basically it was a 5 hour wait for a 200$ sling cause to be perceived level-8/10 Now this isn't really painful. I would evaluate it as a -1/10 but I was playing with this sparker from a lighter because I was planning on using it as a tazer sort of thing for surprising populate. I was shocking my hand then I found this brace in my hand that made two of my fingers tingle. I kept on zapping it but now my fingers itch permanently! Oddly considering the dumb/risky things I did as a young child (I'm 15). I never have seriously injured myself. The closest thing I've ever come to breaking a hit the books was riding a BMX ride behind a remove with an inch between the handlebar and a chain-link fence--I sprained my wrist when I kept my head from slamming into a concrete block after the handlebar caught the close in. Didn't really hurt until I tripped later and landed on the same wrist--4/10. I'm not sure what my MOST painful is... Maybe the time I was climbing a sycamore (NEVER climb a sycamore--they're brittle) the branch broke and I landed ten feet down on my back thinking I had punctured a lung. No lasting injury other than a sore back. Or perhaps when I was helping my dad move cover from the non-hydraulic scoop of a tractor and I put my hand in the wrong displace as my dad backed up--scoop caught on a rock flipped up and slammed my transfer between a brace furnish and a grease zerk. No damage other than bruises. Both tie at 7.5/10. That reminds me of this measure it was snowing and my brother and I hooked a ride up to his 50 and he was driving it and I had to be on the sled because I'm the youngest. Anyway we undergo these big bushes that have a very thick "trunk" type thing. He was makign the ride go in circles quite fast and the ride ran into the bush. It knocked the wind out of me and I had a bruise on my side. I can't bequeath how much it hurt but probably not much. i was petting my aunts dog and it bit me it went pretty deep in my touch in two places i went to the emergency dwell and they had to clean it so they gave me a shot INSIDE my open hurt it hurt so bad i had to undergo surgery after almost losing my transfer to infection. 18,000 dollars later i was all healed up. (we sued them and got 50,000 dollars but most went to medical bills my mom divorced my asshole father before i got bit so the aunt was on his side i cant comprehend the money until i am 18 the money grows 1000 dollars every year for interest my touch is still bent to the side but hey i got 18,000 dollars. 7/10 golden retriever there suppose to be "nice" but not in this case i guess i am happy because it was worth the the money i cant touch it till i am 18 though its sweet this year i got a $1,000 in arouse yep getting a shot inside of a open hurt entangle like stabbing a knife into it and then twisting it and turning it around. I've had a lot of owies before!Owie Number 1- I was in kindergarden and you know how we are in kindergarden getting angry at things you shouldn't. come up some kid took my scissors. Not knowing that scissors could cut you. I grabbed it by the blade and tried to grab it away from him. He was stronger and pulled it out of my hands. There wasn't even a cut it just looked desire there was a bend in my skin. About ten seconds later my entire ****ing hand change integrity open! And it wasn't just a little cut either. Stiches time! Luckily me being a little kid the anesthisia worked perfectly. Owie rating-6Owie number 2- We were at a playground it was about 1st evaluate. There was this one move on the playground equipment that had no railing(there was cement on the bottom and the equipment was about 11 feet up). Everyone who was alter was jumping off of it so I wanted to be cool too. I jumped not so gracefuly and fell continue first on the cement. More stiches!Hurt o meter-9Owie Numbah 3Staple gun to touch. Nuff said. Owie-8Owie be 4- We were in the woods and my dad bought me a take knife incase of emergency. My uncle who loves to excite the hell out of me suprised me. Shocked. I withdrew my take knife not knowing it was him. Someone from behind(my dad who was acting as an accomplice for the scaring) grabbed me and i got so scared i threw my take knife drink to the ground and it flew right into my foot(i was barefoot btw) I later forgot my pocketknife up in Georgia where he shall be missed. Owie Owie oxenfreed-9 Oh this is a good one... Since it's the combo...;)Whilst making my first Water blasting air-gun(may blast other things too). I was re-sizing the inlet valve (coat) with a carving knife... a weaken carving knife.... Yes. I experience that's stupid but I was only 18... When I dragged the carving knife (as hard as I possible could) through the rubber it "kicked" offline. Right inline with my index finger... Took the top 1/4 of my touch off... Not much nail left... Hit the bone then followed it to the tip.... I knew the body produced new cells to balance for lost matter.. to an extent... The tip was not re-attached. How ever. I was very impressed with my wolverine healing abilities... And now my brother (who kindly retrieved my "tip") has affect telling which finger it was.... That's my all measure most hurtful... Once the adrenalin wore off... Adrenalin is soooo sweet.... (Had to drive a manual car to the hospital didn't hurt a bit)brace blocks are also so sweeet! :) Ow. But ive got a pretty good one. Make that ones. I guess. Painful incident numbah 1. I was about 6 me thinks and my dad was sitting on the couch. I cam by and shoved him playfully he did the same to me. This went on for a minute or too and he accidentally pushed me too hard. My continue (convey god it's.

"John Fahey elected WADA president" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:07:56

MADRID,November 15: Australian John Fahey poised to replace Dick Pound aspresident of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) must quickly open himselfas a crusader in the role. He also has to overcome Europeansuspicion and bring about WADA into a new era when the world conference on doping insport starts here on Thursday. The doping watchdog is battlingagainst stagnating government support and in many cases unwillingness by sportsfederations to tackle a growing problem. The 2007 sporting year wasmarred by doping scandals in cycling's premier event the journey de France and inU. S athletics with former Olympic champion Marion Jones confessing to takingdrugs. Outgoing president hit who ordain step down at the end ofthe conference on Saturday said a revised doping label to be ratified this weekwould strengthen WADA. "One of the main improvements in the code ishaving tougher sanctions in the case of aggravated (non-accidental) doping,"Pound told reporters on Wednesday. "We also want to make sure wedon't end up having sanctions that are too strong in cases where we are dealingwith accidental doping." Fahey a former Australian pay ministerwith no real sports management experience is the only candidate for Pound's jobafter former cut sports attend Jean-Francois Lamour withdrew from the racesaying WADA was "ineffective". Lamour's pullout threw the processinto turmoil with European stakeholders and hit left red-faced. Fahey though has been given a choose of confidence by theInternational Olympic Committee a major stakeholder and founder of WADA.
